We contribute to the realization of a smart, resilient society through the products and services of our rental, auto-related, real estate and other businesses. Our rental business supports corporate R&D with an extensive equipment lineup and also offers cutting-edge robot rental services.
In the auto-related business, telematics services are used for companies' appropriate management of labor and prevention of accidents. In addition, we are also working on the development of special vehicles that respond to customer needs such as disaster response and operational efficiency, and a truck rental business that contributes to restoration and reconstruction efforts during earthquake disasters. In the real estate business, we are developing logistics facilities and office buildings that provide BCPs (business continuity plans).

Rental Business (Corporate R&D Support)
Research and development (“R&D”) is essential for society to transition to a smarter, more resilient model that can withstand systemic changes in the natural and human environment, such as climate change and population declines or shifts.
ORIX Rentec offers rental services for high-tech equipment such as electronic measuring instruments, scientific and environmental analysis equipment, ICT equipment and medical devices. Its rental lineup included 2.2 million units in 34 thousand categories as of March 31, 2021. With rental terms tailored to customer needs, from short-term leases of less than a month to mid-to-long-term leases of over a year, ORIX Rentec supports the R&D efforts of customers in various fields.
Robot Rental Business (Support for the smooth introduction of cutting-edge robots)
Companies in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, are increasingly examining the effective use of robots due to intensifying competition resulting from technological innovations and labor force contraction caused by declining birthrates and an aging population. At the same time, introducing robots entails high initial costs and requires expertise in areas including operating methods, which is in short supply.
ORIX Rentec offers a robot rental service to corporate customers (“RoboRen”). The service began with rentals of collaborative robot with applications in industries ranging widely from electronics, automobiles/machines, food and pharmaceuticals to cosmetics. The lineup plans to be expanded with leading-edge robots mainly for the manufacturing and retail industries where high demand is expected.
ORIX Rentec offers education and phone support by expert engineers and provides opportunities to check and compare robot motion and operability at their robot showrooms Tokyo Robot Lab.
ORIX Rentec is also supporting the introduction of robots into corporate production lines through a robot system integrator business in collaboration with other companies. The aim is to contribute to the automation of production lines by consulting on the introduction of robots, including measuring the effects of robot introduction.
In recent years, drone technology has advanced dramatically, and drones are expected to be utilized in a wide range of fields such as surveying, infrastructure inspection, security, evaluation of disaster sites, agriculture, and logistics. As Japan’s working population declines, companies from various industries have been assessing the introduction of drones into their work flows, and the market for drones is expected to grow dramatically in the future. On the other hand, the practical application of drones in different industries raise issues such as procurement of latest models, verification of utilization methods, maintenance, guidelines for safety management, and training of pilots.
Through its drone business, ORIX Rentec addresses these issues and supports the practical implementation of drones. ORIX Rentec sells and rents drones to corporate clients, providing the latest high-performance drones and satisfying a wide range of usage needs from short-term trial use to long-term, full-scale introduction. In addition, ORIX Rentec operates the Drone Training School to teach drone operation skills, submit on behalf of clients’ drone flight applications to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and support clients’ needs for safe and timely inspection of infrastructure and various equipment by taking photographs using drones.
3D printer business
3D printers are being increasingly used in design and in research work. 3D printing shortens the development time of products and enables the creation of products that are both lighter and stronger than traditionally manufactured products. 3D printing also enables the fabrication of a seamless product even when it is comprised of separate parts, reducing the need for assembling and welding and reducing maintenance costs of the product.
ORIX Rentec supports the product development of customers in the various fields, including car manufacturing, aeronautic, and medical devices through our 3D printer rentals and services.
ORIX Rentec provides 3D printer modeling consignment services, installation support services and rental service to corporate clients. Modeling consignment services consist of creating metal or resin prototypes based on the 3D data provided by the client. Installation support services consist of providing support to clients considering installation of 3D printers by providing them an engineer-supported experience with the modeling work flow at ORIX Rentec’s 3D printer facility Tokyo 3D Lab. Rental service supports a low initial-cost introduction of 3D printers into client businesses.
Test Car Solution: a rental service for automatic driving technology development.
ORIX Rentec supports the increasing procurement needs for measuring instruments and test vehicles by automobile manufacturers and components makers as they conduct R&D towards the practical applicability of self-driving vehicles. Self-driving vehicles are expected to decrease the number of injuries and fatalities from car accidents, decrease congestion, decrease emissions, and provide mobility to a greater number of people, including those who are unable to drive, such as those with handicaps or the elderly. ORIX Rentec supports the research and development of self-driving vehicles by providing a one-stop rental service called “Test Car Solution”, providing measuring instruments and test vehicles to corporate clients. Vehicle rentals are done in collaboration with ORIX Auto. Through these services, ORIX Rentec contributes to the creation of next generation vehicles.
The e-Telematics service provided by ORIX Auto uses devices equipped with communication and GPS functions in customers’ vehicles to obtain real-time data on driver behavior such as excessive speeding and sudden acceleration or braking, as well as vehicle data including fuel efficiency. By analyzing this data, we identify compliance, safety and environmental issues in the operation and management of a company’s fleet of vehicles and provide support through consulting services on appropriate labor management of drivers, accident prevention and other matters. For corporations, we offer e-Telematics for sales vehicles and e-Telematics PRO with a digital tachograph*1 certification for transportation vehicles.
In August 2018, we began sales of Nauto, an AI-equipped dashcam developed by Nauto Inc. of the United States, an AI technology company in the automotive field. The product caters to the needs of corporations that want to prevent accidents caused by distracted driving, dozing driving, and road rage.
Since February 2020, we have been conducting demonstration experiments with the Transportation Bureau of Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, to establish an elderly driver watching system using AI. The aging of drivers in Kitakyushu Municipal Bus is becoming an important issue in terms of operation safety and business continuity. In this demonstration experiment, we introduce e-Telematics and Nauto into the vehicles of Kitakyushu City buses, and build a "Safe Driving Support System" based on the data obtained from them. The objective of this program is to support safe driving by utilizing the information gathered to tailor driver training in accordance with the characteristics of each driver.

IoT services for the manufacturing industry
Ubiteq’s IoT services remotely monitor the production and product quality data of manufacturing industry customers in real time, record and store this data in the cloud, analyze it by using AI, and realize productivity improvements, such as increased yield and enhanced product quality. The services use data analysis and automation to standardize the production technology operations of its customers, and thereby resolve management issues such as dependence on individual employees and labor shortages.
Realization of resilient society
Development and sale of special-purpose vehicles
ORIX Auto uses the expertise it has cultivated in truck and specialty vehicle leasing to plan and develop mobile bank branch vehicles and mobile office vehicles that are equipped according to customer requirements.
Mobile bank branch vehicles enable financial institutions to provide financial services without opening a branch. We began developing these vehicles in response to a request from a regional bank whose branches had been damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake. In addition to financial institutions that adopt these vehicles for use in disaster preparedness as part of their business continuity plan, an increasing number of financial institutions use the vehicles to raise operating efficiency in regions where they have consolidated their branches.
We developed the mobile office vehicle to meet customer requirements for reduced working hours and other ways to increase operating efficiency. Our mobile office vehicles are modified commercial-use vans equipped with a desk, a chair with storage capabilities, an inverter, an air conditioner and an LED lamp. For vehicles equipped with a solar panel, it is possible to charge the on-board battery (which runs the vehicle but is configured so that it can also be used to power a lamp, air conditioner, computer, etc.) from sunlight in addition to charging while the vehicle is running or from an external power supply. Mobile office vehicles serve as simple offices and enable office work as time permits. They can improve labor efficiency, lessen employee fatigue, and reduce office rental costs at construction sites and other locations where temporary offices are difficult to install. They can also store power and therefore can be used in areas affected by disasters.

Apartment development business (disaster prevention measures for new properties)
As an apartment developer committed to disaster prevention measures for housing complexes—which have played an essential role since the Great East Japan Earthquake—Daikyo has built a new disaster prevention measure system “SONA-L SYSTEM”. This system has incorporated and placed emphasis on the concepts ‘sustainable living following disasters’ and ‘prevention measures for dynamic disasters’.
SONA-L SYSTEM’s specific functions:
1. Helps sustain lives post-disaster
Supplying electric power to elevators and water pumps during electrical power outages by combining solar power and storage batteries can secure lifelines for sustaining lives. Providing such infrastructure enables those affected to live at home for over a week post-disaster without having to rely on disaster shelters.

2. Supports dynamic disasters
In addition to the risk of earthquakes, the risk of flood damage is also a threat to peoples’ homes. In response to this risk, Daikyo has formulated the “Lions standards for flooding measures” – a consolidation of clarifying risk determination standards and methods for constructing countermeasures. From the time of site selection, Daikyo takes thorough measures to check hazard maps and examine sites based on strict standards.
3. Augments existing disaster prevention measures
In addition to the measures it takes to support its infrastructure development—such as efforts to guarantee building quality to ensure earthquake safety—Daikyo is also strengthening its community building efforts to prepare for disaster situations.
Truck rental business (disaster recovery assistance)
ORIX Auto has developed a truck rental business with a wide range of work vehicles for construction and civil engineering operators, with stable and punctual support services such as insurance coverage at the industry's highest standards and 24/7 accident support.
Since the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011, we have expanded vehicles and opened new stores in the Northeastern (Tohoku) area for the purpose of assisting timely restoration and reconstruction of the area. We rent mid-sized dump trucks, cranes and light vans which are expected to be in demand for construction work such as those on the Joban Expressway, projects to relocate buildings to higher grounds, Joban Train Line relocation projects, and maintenance of coastline areas. We also operate aluminum vans and refrigerator trucks, demand for which is expected to rise due to increases in housing construction.
Since the Kumamoto earthquake in April 2016, ORIX Auto increased the number of its vehicles in the Kyushu area from approximately 1,400 units to approximately 1,900 units. Since the western Japan floods of July 2018, ORIX Auto opened three new sales offices in the Chugoku region and increased the number of vehicles handled from approximately 300 to approximately 800. These service expansions have been to support restoration and reconstruction activities in the areas affected by disasters throughout Japan.
